David Adkins was born on 10th November, 1956 to a Baptist Dr. Donald Beckley Adkins and Louise Adkins. He has 2 sisters named Dorothea and Donna, and 3 brothers named Donald, Michael, and Mark.
Sinbad finished his graduation from Benton Harbor High School. Later he graduated from the University of Denver, where he also lettered for two seasons with the college basketball team.

He has married two times to the same person twice in his life. In 1985, he first married his wife Meredith Adkins; however, the couple separated in 1992.
Later the two rekindled their love in early 2002 and got married by the end of the year. The couple has 2 kids together.
